Portrait of James Meenan, M.A., B.L., Irish economist, lecturer and later Professor of Political Economy and National Economics of Ireland, at UCD, President of the Royal Dublin Society (1980-1983), Vice-President of the Royal Dublin Society (1974-80), Executive Committee Chairman of the Royal Dublin Society (1959-80), Honorary Secretary of the Royal Dublin Society (1953-74). The subject depicted three-quarter length, directed to proper right, gazing front; seated in a green-brown, leather carver-armchair, holding documents in his lap; wearing a dark suit, white shirt with point collar and double cuffs, gold cufflinks, mauve tie and white pocket handkerchief; in the background, a draped, light-blue curtain and a table upon which are more documents; signed and dated lower right John F. Kelly 81.
