Introduction
The RDS Library & Archives have been an important part of the RDS from its foundation in 1731. Our collections hold a wealth of material related to the social, cultural and economic history of Ireland. This is a living digital archive to which we will add new content as it becomes available through our extensive digitisation programme.
If you would like to view more material, the RDS Library & Archives are open to researchers by appointment. You can search the physical materials in the Online Catalogue linked in the menu. Please email librarydesk@rds.ie to arrange a research appointment.

Guide to Searching
✦ For a general search, click the magnifying glass in the top right corner, type a title or date into the searchbox and click the arrow.
✦ For an advanced search, click the cogwheel beside the searchbox and click Advanced Search (Items only), and this will allow for searching within a certain collection or field.
✦ To browse the collections, click the menu button in the top right corner. Choose the collection you wish to view. Most of the collections are arranged chronologically so it is possible to scroll until you reach the years you are looking for.
✦ When you have found the record you wish to view, click on the image of it. It is possible to search for a word within any typed document. To do this, click on the small magnifying glass at the top of the document and type in the word you want to find.
