Description
A silver trophy presented to the Royal Dublin Society by Queen Victoria on the occasion of Her visit to Ireland in 1900. The pear shaped body on a robust stem with central knop, the base applied with two female figures seated, one with an owl on her arm, the other holding a cornucopia, chased overall with flowers and scrolling foliage, the body chased with a plaque of a farming scene on one side and the other side engraved with an inscription, the scroll handles each capped with a dog holding a shield, one shield applied April 1900, the other applied with the Royal Arms below a crown and within a garter motto, the detachable cover with a finial cast as Queen Victoria holding a septre and orb, the inscription reads The Queen Victoria Challenge cup presented by Her Majesty Queen Victoria to the Royal Dublin Society on the occasion of Her Majesty’s visit to Ireland, April 1900, all on a conforming ebonised stand, applied with various plaques engraved with names and dates and contained in a fitted oak case.
