Description
Portrait of Thomas Braughall (1729-1803), Irish wholesale merchant, Dublin, Honorary Secretary of the Royal Dublin Society (1792-1798). The subject depicted half length, seated in right profile; holding open – with both hands and close to his face – a red-bound volume; a quizzing glass hanging on a dark-coloured ribbon at his right side; wearing a black coat, a white stock and a white chemise with ruffles; set against a non-descript, dark-coloured background; unsigned.
