Description
A handwritten letter from John Gray to George F, Fitzgerald, dated March 21st 1896,
John Gray writes on behalf of Lord Kelvin to acknowledge receipt of a letter and to send final proofs of Kelvin’s Baltimore lectures. Kelvin, currently too busy to respond personally, hopes the recipient will accept the proofs as the first instalment of a planned volume to be completed within the year. The lectures cover topics such as vibration and wave motion, which were mentioned in the recipient’s previous letters.
Transcription:
Dear Sir,
Lord kelvin had hoped to write you sooner himself, but he has been too much occupied and will still be so until the end of next week. He therefore instructs me to acknowledge receipt of your letter of the 18th and to send you the accompanying final proofs (by bookpost) of his Baltimore lectures he will be glad if you will accept them as the first instalment of a volume which he hopes, possibly, to complete before the end of a year. You will find there, discussed in some detail, the subjects of vibration and wave motion of which you tell him in your last letter.
The pencil corrections which you fid on pp. 46, 74, etc. have been made from Lord Kelvin's cops
I am,
Yours faithfully,
John Gray
