This collection comprises over 1500 glass plates depicting scenes of Egypt in the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries, including images of temples, tombs, statues and landscapes. There are also drawings and maps collected from books in the collection. Steele used the glass plates to educate the people of Ireland, as he travelled around the island delivering lectures on Egypt.
