Dublin Horse Show London Advertising
From the early 1930s until the late 1960s posters for the Dublin Horse Show appeared in prime locations across central London. This was due to the generosity of John Higgins, the director of Regent Premier Sites, who owned advertising hoardings across the city.
When asked why he offered his hoardings rent free to the RDS to advertise the Horse Show, Higgins stated that he, ”… admired the efforts of the Society to show the world “what the horse could be to man” and that he himself wished to do something for the Show and for Ireland.” After his death, in 1965, his widow presented the RDS with the “John Higgins Memorial Perpetual Challenge Trophy” which is still awarded at the Dublin Horse Show in his memory.
These images featured in the exhibition, Representations of the Dublin Horse Show 1868-2011. The physical version of the exhibition was shown in the RDS Library during Horse Show week 2011.
