The Mother
John Henry Foley, The Mother
John Henry Foley was one of the Society’s pupils, later becoming one of the most successful sculptors of the 19th century, in both the UK and Ireland. The Mother is one of several plaster models he bequeathed to the RDS in 1874. Every inch the classical female, 'the mother’ looks remarkably serene whilst gazing upon her frolicking babes. It’ll end in tears, of course ... when big brother shoves little brother over the edge of the bed!
