Portrait bust of Admiral Sir Francis Leopold McClintock (1819-1907), (British) Royal Navy officer and arctic explorer; the subject modelled to proper right, wearing a coat with buttons of a Royal Navy captain (and/or lieutenant), an open shirt with soft, fold-down collar, a knotted scarf, the Arctic Medal (awarded for leading the British Franklin Search Expedition, 1857-1859) pinned to his coat, his naval garb covered with classical drapery; on a white marble socle of circular, waisted form; inscribed recto Sir Leopold McClintock, signed verso J R Kirk RHA.
Joseph Robinson Kirk was Master of the Royal Dublin Society School of Modelling.
