Description

Portrait of Dr. Mary Ann Hutton (1862-1953), Gaelic scholar and the first woman elected to the Royal Dublin Society Council in 1929. The subject depicted bust length, in three-quarter profile, directed right; wearing a fitted, light-brown coloured jacket with shawl lapel, white chemise and a gold chain around her neck, her fair hair in a hair bun; set against a non-descript, light brown-coloured background. Signed and dated lower right M R Rothwell 1889.
