Description
Portrait of Isaac Weld (1774–1856), Irish topographer, explorer and artist, Vice-President of the Royal Dublin Society (1849-56), Honorary Secretary of the Royal Dublin Society (1828-49). The subject depicted three-quarter length, standing, directed and gazing front; wearing a black topcoat, a white shirt with standing collar points and black cravat; in his right hand a document (possibly his Statistical Survey of the Country of Roscommon, 1832, which was commissioned by the Royal Dublin Society); in the background, a draped, scarlet curtain; indistinctly signed and dated lower left Cregan.
