Description
Posthumous portrait of John Bowes (1690-1767), Lord Chief Baron of the Exchequer in Ireland, later 1st Baron Bowes of Clonlyon, County Meath, and Lord High Chancellor of Ireland (1757-1767). The subject modelled bust length in proper right three-quarter profile, gazing front, wearing robes of office, with lace-edged bands and full-bottom wig.
Alexander Pope was a pupil at the Royal Dublin Society Drawing Schools.
