Description

Handwritten letter from Alfred P. Grairs to Professor George F. Fitzgerald, dated May 8th 1891.
Alfred P. Grairs writes to ask Fitzgerald if he knows of a capable candidate for the role of Organising Secretary of Technical Instruction in Agriculture for the County of Somerset. The ideal applicant should be skilled in agricultural chemistry, drafting, public speaking, and lecturing. The position offers a £400 annual salary plus travel expenses and clerical support.

Dear Fitzgerald,

Have you a first rate man in your eye who would be Agricultural Chemist, Draughtsman, Speaker, & Organising Lecturer. Enough to fill the position of Organising Sec of Tech & Instruction in her Agriculture [County of Somerset?] Call his attention & it advertisement in "Nature" "Science" and "Art" etc, etc

We offer £400 a year & travelling expenses at the highest & will provide office clerical assistance I speak as a coupled County Councillor and as one of the Sub-Committee appointed to Consider applications.

I should like to hear of a good representation from T.C.D but please keep my name quite dark. Except from Arnold.
