Description
Handwritten letter from John Edward Cullum, Valencia Observatory, Cahirciveen, County Kerry, to George F. Fitzgerald, dated 5 December 1895. Cullum seeks Fitzgerald's advice on where he should publish his research paper on the climatology of Valencia Island, and mentions beginning magnetic experiments with Mr. Watson. 1p.
Transcription:
"Dear Sir,
Do you remember me asking you some time ago about a paper the Met. Office wanted me to write on the Climatology of Valencia Island from 20 years continuous Records? You then thought the Royal Dublin Society would publish it. It has now, under the supervision of Mr. Scott, made such discussions and he thinks scientific interest as to need your opinion whether it should go to the Royal Met. Soc. or even the Royal. Soc. for a larger circulation. In the interest of agriculture and the development of the country its chief value would be to Ireland, but the Meteorologists of the Continent have argued that such valuable data should give a good idea of the Climatology of the Atlantic, and therefore universal value. What do you think?
Did I tell you I have sent Mr. Watson the comparison observations I made with him, and the Magnetic work is started again. There is the possibility of me being provided with a new Unifilar, but I expect nothing will be done until the comparison is discussed.
With kind regards, believe me,
Yours very truly,
J. E. Cullum"
