Over a Century of Classical Music at the RDS

The RDS has a longstanding tradition of nurturing and promoting classical music in Ireland. From 1886 to 2002 the RDS organised and hosted chamber recitals of some of the most esteemed musicians in the world. The recitals were held in various locations, including Leinster House, the Abbey Theatre, the Theatre Royal on Hawkins Street and, finally, the RDS Concert Hall, where concerts are still held today. The RDS continues to support musicians with the Music Bursary Programme which offers cash supports totalling €23,000 and performance opportunities to emerging professional musicians.

This exhibition, curated by the RDS Library & Archives in 2015, tells the rich history of the RDS's involvement with Dublin's classical music scene. For further insight into the RDS and music, visit RDS Concert Archive · RDS.
