Description
Handwritten letter from Thomas Preston to George F. Fitzgerald, dated 12 March 1899. The paper’s masthead is from Preston’s home at Bardowie, Orwell Park, Rathgar, County Dublin. He has recently returned from a tour. He lists the committee members of the British Association for the Advancement of Science, including Oliver Lodge, Monsignor Molloy, Silvanus Phillips Thompson, and Preston and Fitzgerald. He writes that he received a letter from Yeats [possibly William Butler Yeats] asking for money. Preston suspects that the Lord Lieutenant will not offer him a position in [Queen’s College] Galway unless everybody else refuses. He does not feel insulted and plans to stay where he is. 2pp.
