Title

[Letter to George F. Fitzgerald from Thomas Preston],

Identifier

GFF 11/11

Description

Handwritten letter from Thomas Preston to George F. Fitzgerald, written from his home in Bardowie, Orwell Park, Rathgar, County Dublin, and dated 20 April 1896. He wrote that he had enclosed a note written on 18 March when he was in Skibbereen. The note contains information about scientific experiments in “the quarter period of phase acceleration crux,” which appears when calculating a wave at an external point using the Huygens–Fresnel method. The ideas may be relevant for researching matters of “wave motion.” At first, he thought that the information was insignificant, but he now thinks it may be useful for future publication and would like to hear Preston’s opinion about the subject. 4pp.
