Description

Handwritten letter from W. G. Bond, Holmby, Fortune Green Lane, West Hampstead. N. W. dated 13 January 1898. Bond discusses communication dynamics in the Physical Society. 2pp. Transcription: "Dear Prof. Fitzgerald, I am much obliged to you for backing my bill on the Physical Society. As to my making com-munications to the Society that would be a flat contradiction of the second law of the dynamics of science, to wit, the com-munication of knowledge from a body of less knowledge to another of greater. No doubt wisdom [?] - occasionally, very occasionally - out of the mouths of babes & sucklings, but not scientific contributions. However 'silent members' have their sphere of usefulness, I would fair hope. Communication & reception are equal & opposite; hence there could be no papers unless there were passive receivers. Your's very truly W. G. Bond"
