Description
Handwritten letter from Edward Tremlett Carter, Fleet Street, London to George F. Fitzgerald, dated 25 October 1898. Tremlett Carter responds to discourse surrounding Oliver Heaviside and "The Electrician" periodical.
Transcription:
"Dear Prof. Fitzgerald
I hasten to reply to your letter of yesterday's date, to say how vexed I am that Oliver Heaviside's name should by any chance or mischance be associated with the note in question. Of course he has nothing to do with the matter, and I never dreamed that anyone could connect him with it. It is also disappointing to find that "The Electrician" could rest under the suspicion of such an attack as that you allude to. We would never think of such a thing!
Probably you have not observed in contemporary technical and other journals a number of unsigned articles fearing ignorance and injustice upon their very face. The author of these desrves the censure implied in the note which seems to have created so much mystery.
All this in confidence.
Yours faithfully
E. Tremlett Carter (editor)"
