RDS Awards
Description
From its foundation in 1731 the RDS has rewarded innovation in Irish agriculture, art, industry and science through the award of premiums, prizes and medals. In the eighteenth century the RDS introduced its premium scheme which gave cash payments for agricultural, industrial and artistic endeavour. It continued this support during the 19th century with the award of horse and cattle breeding premiums, prizes for students of art and design and with the Boyle Medal for scientific excellence. Today, the RDS continues this tradition through its Visual Art Awards, Craft Bursaries, Forestry Awards, and Gold Medal for Industry.
The RDS Awards collection currently includes listings of prizes, premiums and awards for the promotion of Irish art, agriculture, science and industry for the years 1778-1900.
