Description

Muriel Françoise Gahan, founding member of the Arts Council, renowned for her role in the establishment of The Country Shop, Country Workers Ltd., the Irish Homespun Society and Country Markets Ltd. and for promoting traditional crafts in Ireland. The subject depicted bust length, directed forward, face inclined slightly to the right, wearing a peacock-blue knitted jacket and satin blouse, and a grey neck scarf pinned at the throat with an oval brooch with a white-coloured stone set in gold, against a background of a surrealist-effect blue sky with clouds.
